WANGI BATH

Updated: Oct 6, 2022

 WANGI BATH

Wangi bath is one of many famous South Indian dishes which originated in karnataka. The word ‘wangi bath’ means fried brinjal rice. Different people make this dish differently. Here is how I make at home without using onion and tomato.

Ingredients:

1. Brinjal – 1/4 kg

2. Oil – 5 Table spoon

3. Bengal gram – 2 Table spoon

4. Urad daal – 1 Table spoon

5. Mustard – 1 Tea spoon

6. Curry leaves

7. Salt

8. Turmeric

9. Tamrind juice – 3 Table spoon

10. Dry coconut – 1/2 Cup

11. Lemon juice – 1 full

12. Wangibath powder – 5-6 Table spoon

Procedure for making wangi bath:

1. Add oil to the pan, let the mustard splutter.

2. Add bengal gram, urad daal, curry leaves and give it a fry.

3. Add brinjal and fry until it becomes soft. Adding salt and 1 table spoon sugar while frying makes it cook faster.

4. Close the lid and fry it in a 5 minutes interval.

5. Add tamrind juice and let it simmer.

6. Add turmeric, wangibath powder, dry coconut and fry for 3-4 minutes.

7. Turn off the stove and add lemon juice.

8. Add the above prepared mixture to the steamed rice as per your taste and enjoy.

I have used homemade wangi bath powder. You can use ready made powder or easily make at home using our WANGI BATH POWDER RECIPE.

Serves: 5

SECRET TIPS:

1.Lemon juice is optional. I add it to enhance the taste.

2. To prevent brinjal from becoming black color while cutting, add the chopped brinjal to a bowl of water mixed with 1 tablespoon of rice flour.
